Reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer, Inflammation and Immunology Research, this leader is responsible for supporting the design of strategies and initiatives to enable portfolio delivery and providing senior-level operations support to the research unit. S/He should be a motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills, a strategic thinker with the ability to execute and manage multiple priorities with keen attention to detail, a collaborator across WRD and the enterprise, and an innovator to enhance existing processes or implement new ones, where appropriate. S/He will also be responsible for establishing a framework and action plan for I&I research unit related processes like strategic and operation planning, portfolio prioritization, and budget management. The successful candidate should be well-organized, creative, independent, self-motivated with exceptional presentation, written and oral communication skills. S/He should also demonstrate biopharmaceutical business acumen; strong project management skills, the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; the ability to respond to tight timelines; as well as, the capability to interact with all levels of the organization in a professional and discrete manner.
+ Strategic planning and implementation:Works closely with the I&I LT as well as the I&I Category Triad to plan, develop and implement short and long-term business strategies and align annual goals to meet WRD and category objectives.
+ Drives therapeutic area strategic focus and new disease planning efforts that include internal stakeholders and external qualitative and quantitative research
+ Works with project teams to build robust strategies that both mitigate risk and maximize the opportunity to deliver first- and/or best-in-class medicines
+ Co-ordinates business processes such as the annual strategy and operating plans and portfolio prioritization.
+ Manages the operational and clinical budgets to target in collaboration with the CSO, LT and Finance
+ Supervises the Chief of Staff and a Business Analyst to ensure that all operational aspects of the department's business are optimally functional
+ Supervises the departmental administrative staff
+ Oversees laboratory operations including strategic capital expense planning, laboratory safety and compliance and space planning
+ Designs and implements new ways to analyze portfolio productivity that are transparent to stakeholders and clearly demonstrate the ROI
+ Ensure best practices are applied to effectively and efficiently advance our pipeline and improve the overall efficiency of the organization.
+ Partners with the RU and Category leadership team to ensure timely governance reviews for project teams and achievement of key project milestones and objectives.
+ Prepares reliable, high quality presentations, talking points, internal communications and correspondence that effectively convey key messages to intended audiences e.g., WRDLT presentations
+ Liaises with leaders and colleagues across the organization to ensure the right level of information is available in a timely manner for the head of the group.
+ Works proactively with HR, Strategy and Finance leads to deliver robust strategic planning and partnerships.
+ Ensuring and tracking adequate allocation of resources (e.g. financial, staffing, platform technologies, etc.) in a proactive and timely manner
+ Support the continuous implementation of the research unit and I&I Category governance and reporting
+ Ensures compliance to all policies, guidelines and procedures including preparing, coordinating and remediation planning for audits
+ Tracks delivery of portfolio of projects and collaborations against goals
+ Develops and implements new processes to drive the efficient operation of the research unit
+ Represent the CSO at selected meetings
+ Provide advice and guidance to the CSO pertaining to internal events as well as the external environment. Be an objective sounding board.
+ Coaches and mentors a team of business professionals, including the Chief of Staff, to lead strategy, operations, and compliance across the research unit
+ Advanced degree in a biomedical discipline
+ Advanced strategic planning, business analysis, communication and business software skills required.
+ 10+ years of experience with a proven track record in life sciences organizational management, strategic, financial and business planning, operations, and business development (5+ years of relevant experience advising or consulting senior leaders in life sciences)
